Project Overview

The Squirrely Bird Feeder project solves a common backyard problem: squirrels stealing birdseed and damaging feeders. Our solution combines artificial intelligence, motion detection, mechanical control, and cloud-based storage into one intelligent system. Using a Raspberry Pi controller, PIR motion sensor, and machine learning classification, the feeder can distinguish between birds and squirrels and automatically close a servo-controlled gate when squirrels are detected. The system captures and stores images in the cloud, giving users a digital birdwatching experience while protecting their birdseed. Our design is humane, weather-resistant, and low-maintenance.
